To use our stair calculator you need to enter the following measurements as a minimum.

Total rise the vertical height between the bottom of the first step and the top of the final step in the stair stringer.
Multiply that by the number of stairs.

How to measure stairs for carpet.
Height of the step.
If doing by hand multiply your stair area plus the padding by the number of stairs to determine how many square feet of carpet you ll need for all stairs.
Divide by 12 and round up to get the number of feet.
Width x run rise nose x number of stairs area.
After measuring the riser get the length and width of any landings then round all of your measurements up to the nearest foot.
For a typical set of 12 box stairs measuring 3 wide using a carpet that is 12 wide you would require 12 x 4 6 in a 12 width of carpet you get 4 box stairs 12 divided by 3 so every 12 x 18 gives you 4 stairs.

Include an inch or two extra to wrap around the nose.
